The History of Shree Vadlivari Meldi Maa

The Shree Vadlavari Meldi Maa Mandir was established by Vahutyadada over three hundred years ago at the bank of the lake in Babra when Vahutyadada called upon Meldi Maa, she answered his prayer and she promised to stay at the lake. Meldi Maa took her place close to the lake near the Vadlo tree, Since that day it has been called the Shree Vadlivari Meldi Maa Mandir.

Over time the Mandir started to sink into the ground. The pilgrims ensured that the mandir did not disappear into the ground and kept digging around the mandir, this resulted in pilgrims having to walk down a steep slope to visit the small mandir. The mandir was very small and in difficult terrain to get to, however, pilgrims have always made sure to receive darshan of Meldi Maa.

The area surrounding the mandir was mainly farmland and open space, no roads were leading to the Mandir and therefore devotees/pilgrims had to walk to the mandir. A devotee of Meldi Maa decided that he would make the mandir more accessible to devotes/pilgrims. He arranged for some dirt track roads to be built as he also wanted to rebuild the Mandir.

In December 2009 with the blessing of Mother, the inauguration took place by laying the first foundation stone for the new mandir. The original mandir was to stay and a new mandir built above it. The steep slopes were dug around, and solid steps were placed to give easy access to pilgrims to visit the original form of mother. The new mandir was crafted using marble, the stone was transported to Barba and then craftsmen carved the marble to build the mandir.

In 2012, the mandir was fully constructed and in April that year, the main inauguration took place in placing Shree Vadli Vari Meldi Maa into the new mandir. The mandir has become a central point for Babra. The locals visit the Mandir regularly and at weekends and holidays, people from close towns and cities visit the mandir to receive darshan of Mother.

Pilgrims have made a start to come over from all over the world to take blessings and darshan from mother and the lord. Since 2012 the surrounding area of the mandir has been developed, we have been blessed to have built a further 3 new temples within the temple grounds.

We have also constructed a large dining room and kitchen. Above the dining room, there are some rooms for pilgrims to stay if they have travelled a distance. The Gowshala has been constructed to keep the cows safe and healthy and a Yagnashala where the Havan (holy fire prayer) has been conducted and ongoing since March the 6th 2020.

Mother has given her blessings for the mandir and the surrounding area to be a blessed place. It is believed that even today the presence of mother and the lord can be felt. All devotees who pray/visit Shree Vadlivari Maa Meldi with an open mind and heart are blessed.
